University of Sri Jayawardenepura : Nursing Field Practicum
We had the pleasure of hosting second-year undergraduate students from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Nursing and Midwifery stream at the Sarvodaya HQ as part of their community engagement practicum sessions.
Our Director, Udesh Fernando, kicked off the day with an engaging co-learning session on the theme “Sixty-Five Years of Sarvodaya Community Engagement and Development.” It was an interactive start to a day filled with insightful immersive experiences. Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, Chair of SIHL conducted a lecture on Community Wellbeing and on the Community Health interventions of the Movement.
Throughout the day, the students delved into various Specialist Sarvodaya Units through onsite breakout sessions, including Sarvodaya Suwasetha Sewa Society, Artha Dharma Secretariat, End Child Poverty SDG Academy, and the Nutrition Enhancement Programme. Each session was led by passionate individuals leading our programme area, sharing their valuable expertise and knowledge.
The group also had a captivating experience at the Vishva Niketan International Peace & Meditation Centre, led by Trustee Dr. Upali Marasinghe, where they engaged in an extended discussion session on the importance of Spritiual orientation programmes for psycho-social wellbeing.
The program concluded with an Unconference session led by our Director.
Our dedication to positive change in individuals and communities shines through in the various innovative projects and community engagement initiatives we undertake. The enthusiastic feedback from both students and staff solidifies the success of our Exposure Programmes at Sarvodaya in 2024.
Keep an eye out for more upcoming exposure visits! If you’re keen on participating, don’t hesitate to get in touch and secure your spot as our schedule is filling up rapidly.
