3 Days Training Program for Post-MD Community Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo
The Sarvodaya Institute of Higher Learning conducted a three-day Public Health Management Training Program from 12–14 November 2025 for 24 Senior Registrars in Community Medicine from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. The programme formed part of the Post-MD Community Medicine/Community Dentistry Training and focused on strengthening participants’ practical understanding of public health systems, management structures, and community-centred development.
The training began with an overview of Sri Lanka’s public health landscape delivered by Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, followed by sessions on Sarvodaya’s Field Operations Division, International Unit, SDGs Academy, End Child Poverty Knowledge Centre, and Disaster Management Unit. Participants explored how these units contribute to national health, resilience building, and community wellbeing.
Throughout the programme, trainees learned about Sarvodaya’s long-standing community development model, its peace and mindfulness initiatives at Vishva Niketan, and youth-led development through the Shanthi Sena movement. Additional sessions covered early childhood development, project portfolio management, and Sarvodaya’s transformation strategy under the Artha Dharma National Initiative.
On the final day, the group visited Suwasetha facilities, including the Nutrition Centre, Ma Sevana, and the Elders’ Home in Ratmalana, gaining firsthand exposure to services offered to vulnerable groups. The programme concluded with sessions on Deshodaya’s governance initiatives and an introduction to the Sarvodaya Institute of Higher Learning.
The three-day training provided Post-MD trainees with a holistic understanding of how public health, community empowerment, and development practices are integrated and delivered at the grassroots level across Sri Lanka.
